National Swimming Pool Foundations--Certified Pool/Spa Operators Handbook
“The changes create an even better reference manual.”
The National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®) introduces the Certified Pool-Spa Operator® Handbook. The new handbook features several improvements to further advance this industry-leading resource written for professionals who help protect people who use aquatic venues.
Pool operators, health officials, service technicians, retailers, property managers, and manufacturers will appreciate the updates that ensure this handbook remains the most current, comprehensive, and helpful reference in the field. NSPF® has added new sections on UV systems, sun safety, bather load calculations, and risk management. The entire handbook has been reviewed and updated to include the most recent information, such as the section on recreational water illness prevention is based on the most current data available.
Some of the material is reorganized to make it easier to use. For example, the charts used to calculate dosage, worksheets and notes pages are now grouped together in an appendix. This conveniently organizes all the information needed for dosage calculation into one place. The index is also enhanced to more quickly find important information
Based on strong international interest, mathematical examples that use metric units are now included throughout the book. These examples are color-coded to make them easy to find and to differentiate from the U.S. unit calculations. New information is included on filtration systems that are in-use throughout Europe and other parts of the world.
The CPO® handbook continues to make use of color and images extensively to help students and instructors visualize important concepts and new advances in the pool and spa industry. “This new edition delivers on our promise to update the CPO® handbook and exam annually,” says Alex Antoniou, Ph.D., the Director of Educational Programs at NSPF®. “The changes create an even better reference manual and a better exam for those who take the CPO® course. The new material does not change the CPO® course content,” adds Thomas Lachocki, Ph.D., the CEO at NSPF®.
The CPO® Handbook presents information to prevent drowning, suction entrapment, evisceration, diving accidents, recreational water illness, electrocutions, chemical hazards, and slip and falls. Information about regulatory agencies and guidelines, disinfection, water balance, water problems, troubleshooting, chemical testing and record keeping, chemical feed and control technology are also included.
The NSPF® CPO® program is an international training program. It satisfies the educational requirement for commercial pool and spa operators in many jurisdictions. Since 1982, over 180,000 students from 45 countries have been trained by NSPF ® CPO® instructors. NSPF® also provides advanced education with its Certified Pool-Spa Inspector™ CD training program for health officials who perform inspections and for facility management who perform self audits. The World Aquatic Health™ Conference brings leaders together to advance recreational water science. Additionally, NSPF® funds research to protect people and encourage better health through aquatics.
